Part 34: Final Detailing

Part 34

Hi everyone. It's been busy the last few weeks. Finishing this update took a while as every route and city received some sort of modification. But one thing I found was that there was some sort of corruption when in the last update I applied the biome to Mt Coronet. Certain chunks became corrupted and created some sort of 'melting' effect. You will soon see what I mean.

First of all the reason why this update took so long is because I wanted to make the borders as invisible as possible. This involved trimming all the leaf borders and hiding them under trees a little further back from the original. It is a cleaner look that opens the world right up

In the screenshot below the border on the left is the old border. It was ugly and obvious as to what its intention was. To block you off. The border on the right has been removed and gaps into the areas where you aren't supposed to be accessing are blocked off in a more natural looking way.

Some locales were 'platinumised'. What I mean by that is; because most of the designs were taken from the Diamond and Pearl versions of the DS games it looks like those games. Some designs in the Platinum version of the game which came out a year later were updated. Some designs were replaced in the DS game and any that I though were worthy of being replaced by the designed in Platinum were replaced.

An example is the wall around the Pokemon Mansion. The Diamond and Pearl design looks like a prison wall for rich people. It was tall, ugly and boring. Plus it obstructed the view from both inside and out.

The design in Platinum is a lot lower and sleeker that the design that went before it. Plus you can see in the grounds from outside.

Now this melting effect that corrupted most of Sinnoh. Particularly caves. And it wasn't jsut caves that were in or near the area of Mt Coronet that had a new biome added. It was region wide. As far as the Battle Island and Lake Verity.

It took me a while to figure out what was going on but it appears that certain blocks (particularly blocks that would be naturally generated) would copy them selves and overwrite any blocks between 2-3 blocks below them.

Below is Oreburgh gate corrupted.

And this is what Oreburgh gate is supposed to look like.

Plus most cave entrances appeared to be blocked off. It was bizarre.

But it wan't just caves. Housed were affected as well. This is the main protagonists house. The roof has 'melted' on one side consuming the blocks below. This effect had also continued inside and in the protrusion of the second floor in the roof on the right.

And here it is fixed.

Same thing happened next door.

The tunnel that leads to the Battle Frontier was also affected.

So there. No download link this update. You can see the update next when the project is completed in the next post.

Part 33: Mt Coronet and Spear Pillar.

Part 33

Sorry it's a late post again. I completely forgot to write it up. Anyway...

Mt Coronet
The rest of the mountian. The centerpiece of Sinnoh. Mt Coronet is a complex cave system the player traverses with the ultimate goal of reaching spear pillar.

Mt Coronet can be accessed by either the northern or the southern  routes but is more traditionally accessed by the southern section. No real planning went in. Just build the caves and then build the exterior around it.

The first cave is a moderately large cave.

Quite simple. Nothing really worth noting other than it routes the player north.

The next room is tiny.

Very tiny.

But it gives the player access to another small room with another hidden item. It also leads to a corridor that takes the player outside to the snowy surrounds of the mountain.

I'd say the caves are quite well packaged. They fit neatly together.

The surrounds circulate the centre of the mountain. There was no specific size but it managed to fit perfectly over the caves underneath.

Layering up and up.

In the centre of the surroundings there is another cave. It doesn't quite fit as it is too large. The left hand side had to be cropped in and the right hand side had to be blown out a few blocks.

It's getting there.

There is a massive cave that takes the player from essentially the centre to the northern link.

On it's own it is just a bit smaller than the rest of the Mt Coronet system.

The cave leading to Spear Pillar. Some modifications were made so Spear Pillar would face the correct way and make the most out of the available space on the summit.

Cobblestone is temporarly marking the whereabouts of Spear Pillar.

It may look high altitude but it is the same altitude as the top of the Pokemon League building.

It snows on Mt Coronet in the DS game so it snows here as well.

I used WorldEdit to brush the biome on. Sadly it messed up some chunks so if you look around the region and find deformed buildings and caves with a very low cieling then that's why. Don't worry. It's getting all fixed up in the next update.

Looking at Mt Coronet from Route 208.

Spear Pillar
The Pillar that is all too familiar to anyone who had played Pokemon Diamond, Pearl or Platinum. This is the place where the player can catch their version specific legendary Pokemon.

Consisting mostly of sandstone and pillars that look a little bit like dicks but lets just look over that.

It is mostly a ruin Spear Pillar. Adds to that mystical charm.

And there it is. All done.

The outside. The tall grass despite being natural looks a little un natural.
